“It is no surprise to me that hardly anyone tells the truth about how they feel. The smart ones keep themselves to themselves for good reason. Why would you want to tell anyone anything that’s dear to you? Even when you like them and want nothing more than to be closer than close to them? It’s so painful to be next to someone you feel strongly about and know you can’t say the things you want to.”
— Henry Rollins
We will mercilessly destroy the killers of our children… But being the killers of other people’s children is fair game, I guess.
Soviet soldiers held a gun to my 2-year-old mother’s head and threatened to fire, to try and get my grandmother to tell them where my grandfather was hiding. He was a local organizer of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution against the communist satellite regime installed by the USSR after World War 2. Thankfully he hadn’t told my grandmother where he was going when he went into hiding, and thankfully the Soviet soldiers realized she didn’t know where he was, and wasn’t just lying to save her husband.

“Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.”
